Year 1 is quite different to Little Acorns so we ease the children in with some lovely introductory activities, to help the children settle in to their new class. After a week or so, the first topic for the Autumn term is 'Who has been to space?'. It is a History based topic that focuses on the first moon landing. We will enjoy looking at what the astronauts might see in space and linking it to some fantastic space stories in English.
Other useful information to note;
PE takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays so please send the children into school wearing their PE kit (instead of school uniform). They will be outside for PE, plus break times and lunchtimes, so an outdoor kit is required.
Homework will be set online using Google Classrooms. A new task will be set each Wednesday, and will be due in by the following Wednesday. You can post photos or attach documents to show us what your child has worked on. We will also set some spelling words to practise, and send reading books home every day. Reading at home is one of the most important things you can do to help your child in year one so please take every chance you have to read with them - even if it's just for 5 minutes!
Please bring the reading packs into school every day, along with the reading record book where you can write any messages you wish us to see. The children can also bring water with them every day, and a snack for break time.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask us when you see us :)
