"Guiding all our flock to flourish"

French

Our MFL curriculum aims to instill a love of language learning and an awareness of other cultures. We want pupils to develop the confidence to communicate in French for practical purposes, using both written and spoken French. We aim to give pupils a foundation for language learning that encourages and enables them to apply their skills to learning further languages, developing a strong understanding of the English language, facilitating future study and opening opportunities to study and work in other countries in the future.

Why French?

  • 4 out of 6 of our main feeder secondary schools teach French at KS3. The other two schools teach both French and Spanish. It will therefore benefit the children to start learning the foundations of the language that they will go on to develop at secondary school.
  • We offer children a Spanish taster day in the summer term of year 6 to help the children who will attend a secondary school that teaches Spanish to be exposed to some basic Spanish vocabulary.
