All Saints Church of England Primary School

"Guiding all our flock to flourish"

Year 6

Welcome to The Meadow!

The Meadow is the brand-new, bespoke Year 6 building at All Saints CE Primary School.

Our Year 6 children are flourishing here in their own purpose-built classrooms and facilities; supporting their growing independence and the important transition to secondary school.

Elder Class is led by Mrs Allen with support from Mrs Bolton, and Poplar Class is led by Miss Mays with support from Mrs Blurton. Both Year 6 classes feel themselves very lucky indeed to be supported by Mrs Norton (a highly experienced Year 6 teacher) who provides small group focus work to boost and stretch our children's learning forward.

Our priority is to nurture and support the eldest of our school's pupils as they head towards the next phase of their learning journeys; helping every one of them to be the very best that they can be. We regularly return to the theme of choices with our Year 6: they are all encouraged to reflect carefully on the choices they make as they grow and learn. We are immeasurably proud to say that our eldest students are rising to the challenge of being superb ambassadors and role models for our school community.

We aim to provide a rich and engaging curriculum which encourages a life-long love of learning in our children. We place a very high emphasis on the importance of reading and, as with all directed homework, we appreciate and depend upon the support of our parents to encourage and facilitate a home-school learning partnership.

We will regularly communicate with our Year 6 parents through emails and phone calls, but please do not hesitate to seek a face-to-face meeting with your child's class teacher if any concerns or issues arise. We can't promise perfection, but we will always be approachable.

Key routines:

  • PE is timetabled for Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure suitable PE clothing: dark shorts or joggers; white t-shirts; trainers; hair to be tied back; jewellery removed or ear-rings taped; no football or other supporter kits please.
  • Homework is sent out weekly on Fridays, to be returned by the following Thursday please. In addition to the typical maths, reading, and possibly writing tasks, please remember to practise spellings (for the Tuesday test) and times-tables or their inverse division questions (all 12 Times Tables should be secure by the end of Year 4).
  • Our children are asked to read regularly - at least three times weekly - at home and they all have access to the class and school library, and are encouraged to borrow two books at a time.

Many thanks for your support in all that we do for our fantastic Year 6 children here at All Saints.
